Western Australia - Essential Services
In Western Australia, there are no prescribed Essential Fire Safety Measures provisions other than those outlined in Part I1 of the Building Code of Australia (BCA), for new buildings. The Building Codes and Regulations Branch of the Department of Housing and Works (DHW) regulate building control matters. It is expected a discussion paper on Maintenance of Essential Services is being released for comment by DHW.
Best practice would dictate that AS1851-2005 should be the standard all Fire Services Providers should be using for the Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Fire Safety Measures in the absence of any legislation. There is no requirement at this time for display or submission of Annual Certificates or Statements. Applicable O.H.&S legislation would apply and building owners and managers are still responsible for the health and safety of all occupants and visitors in their buildings.
